Halkidiki

Halkidiki peninsula is a real paradise in Northern Greece, where all dreams of qualitative and memorable vacation come true. It is almost 3000 sq. km., washed by the clear Aegean Sea. On the peninsula there are three smaller peninsulas, which are often called “fingers”: Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. It is the center of summer tourism in Greece, so tours on Chalkidiki are so popular and in demand throughout the season.

The sea here is very clean. There are many wonderful beaches with fine clean sand. Nature and ecology of the peninsula is ideal, since almost all of its territory is covered by forests and greenery with century-old pines.

Each of the “fingers” is distinguished by its unique atmosphere and attractions. In Sithonia you can see the next attractions: the ruins of the ancient Olynthos, ancient Greek village of Sykia, Parthenonas, Nikiti, the vineyards of Porto Carras, the old harbor of Porto Koufo and ruins of Toroni. On Kassandra – Byzantine lookout tower in the village of Agios Pavlos, Athos monastery in Nea Fokia, the traditional village of Afitos, thermal spa in Agia Paraskevi. Athos is the most unusual of the three “fingers” – here is located a unique autonomous monastic state in the world, the territory of which has 20 male Orthodox monasteries.

Often tourists choose between three “fingers”, but the northern part of Chalkidiki is also very interesting, although it has no direct access to the sea. There is something to see, such as the traditional Greek village: Agios Prodromos, Arnaia, Taxiarchis. Also, there is the cave of Petralona, where the remains of the ancient man in Europe were found.
