The trip will give you the opportunity to touch the magical world of winemaking and learn a lot of interesting things about the traditions of wine drinking in Greece. During our excursion we will visit three wineries. Before that we will get acquainted with the island’s vineyards and the peculiarities of growing grapes.
Our first stop will be at the Museum of Wine, the second most famous in the world. This one-of-a-kind museum happens to be nestled in a cave and because of its unique position this natural labyrinth is eight meters below ground and 300 meters long.
Next stop will be in a modern space with the peculiarly familiar atmosphere built into the shade of the rocks. An authentic meeting of souls sharing mutual love for any kind of visual art. This museum combines art and wine in same place. After visiting the unusual cave rooms of the winery, you will taste several of the best wines of the island.
The tour will continue with the visit to the island’s only ouzo and liquor factory, which operates since 1974. Here we will taste the famous ouzo! Ouzo perhaps is one of the most popular Greek alcoholic drinks. Traditionally, it is prepared in copper containers where water, anise seeds, herbs, and spices – fennel, cloves and coriander are mixed. This manufacture also produces excellent strong grape spirit, also known as tsipouro or tsikoudia – the Greek version of grappa. Greece produces a huge variety of spirits and liqueurs, some of them will also have chance to taste, including the famous mastic liqueur – a drink with a protected name place of origin. It is produced from the resin of a mastic trees (mastichochoria) that grow on the island of Chios.
